1. Eligibility, qualifying sessions and partnership requirements

a)     In order to be eligible to participate in the Junior Player of the Year competition (JPOY), a player must be a member of the Bermuda Bridge Club and have had fewer than 50 masterpoints as at the 1 January 2023

b)     All players are also expected to be members of the ACBL and MUST be a member on 30 June in order to qualify.

e)     In the event that a Tuesday evening game is an open game (for example an ACBL charity game), the game will still count for JPOY provided that both partners are eligible as above.

f)     The competition will commence on the first Tuesday of the year and will conclude on the last Tuesday before the Bermuda Bridge Club Christmas party.

g)     If a player’s partner is not a member of the Bermuda Bridge Club, any masterpoints earned towards JPOY will only count at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

h)     A player who is not a member of the ACBL may only compete at the discretion of the Tournament director.

i)      For the avoidance of doubt, there is no minimum number of partners that a competitor must have played with in order to be eligible.

2. Scoring Masterpoints

a)     A player’s masterpoint award will be that indicated by ACBL score, including bonuses granted owing to the event‘s rating as a STAC game, club championship (eg. b)     In the event that a side game is played on a Tuesday evening at the same time as a Junior Club Championship game, only the points earned in the Championship game will count towards JPOY.

c)     Subject to the rules and regulations of this competition, the player scoring the most masterpoints will be declared the JPOY. In the event of a tie, the title will be shared.
