Junior-Senior Evening a Big Success
by Steve Ball 27 Jun 09
The Junior-Senior evening run by the club on Thursday 25th June was heralded as a big success by all involved. There was a full house of 18 tables with several brave juniors biting the bullet after having just emerged from their excellently run lessons. Well done to all the seniors who encouraged them and offered themselves as partners.
Congratulations to Margie Way and Bill Tucker who won the Mixed Pairs with an excellent combined score of 310.27, holding on to their large lead after the first round. Jean Johnson and Joe Wakefield finished a close second with a combined score of 306.41 after posting a very good 63.81% second half result. Third was Elizabeth McKee and John Glynn at 305.55, while Vera Petty and Roman Smolski charged into fourth place after posting a superior 68.48% showing in the second game. There were 24 pairs in the event held on April 20th and 24th.
Guadeloupe Round-Up
In the CACBF championships, the open team finished runners up to Guadeloupe. They were in fourth place after the round robin and drew Trinidad & Tobago in the semis whom they beat 71-55. They met Guadeloupe in the final but were always behind, eventually losing by 126-207. Overall this was an excellent performance and despite the disappointment of the final, the team acquitted themselves extremely well.
