Congratulations to the winning team of of Alan Douglas, Bill Tucker, John Burville and David Cordon who triumphed in the Open Teams Championship held on 26th and 30th October. A total of 12 teams competed over two sessions and each team played eight seven-board matches. The winners accumulated 112 VPs, seven more than the second placed team of Vera Petty, Roman Smolski, David and Sally Sykes. In third place on 97 VPs were Joe Wakefield, Jean Johnson, Tony Saunders and Charles Hall. Jack Rhind directed.
Junior Teams 2009

Five teams competed for the Junior Team Championship on consecutive Wednesdays, 14th and 21st October. Our congratulation to the winning team of Lorna Anderson, Margaret Kirk, James and Marsha Fraser who accumulated 113 victory points. In second place were Diana Downs, Jane Hulse, Wilena White and Kath Bell on 90 VPs. It was close for third with the team of Steve Trumper, Sandra Curtis, Mark and Alex Crampton just pipping Lesley Mackay, Liz O'Mahoney and Tim and Sue Molineux.
Congratulations to Roman Smolski and Vera Petty who emerged as the winners of the 2009 Open Pairs held over two sessions on 28th September and 2nd October.
It was very close after the first session with the eventual winners only one matchpoint ahead of Judy Bussell and Lyn O'Neil with Bill and Linda Pollett one matchpoint back in third. It was so close that less than one board separated the first seven places.
My bridge partner and friend Christiane Bock is leaving the island for good - back to her home in Basel, Switzerland. A joy to play with, good sport, who lived up to her motto "Laugh and Enjoy", win or lose. I think we have all enjoyed it too. Click here for Christiane's personal message
Bermuda Sectional

The 2009 Bermuda Sectional was held over the weekend of 18th to 21st September and was a great success with a record breaking 130 tables. Our thanks to hard-working Tournament Coordinator Craig Hutton and his myriad of helpers and to Tournament Director Karl Hicks who is always a class act.

The Annual BBQ and Golf tournament, held on September 5th 2009, were both a great success. Click here to see all the photos of the BBQ and click here to see pictures of the Golf. The fun golf tournament was held at Horizons - the format was 18 holes of Captains Choice with "Closest to the Pin" on #1 for the Ladies and #6 for the Men.
